Jolly Pumpkin’s Bam Biere was a first for me — the first time I’ve ever had a true gusher. The bottle was probably not cold enough, but there’s also the roll of the dice with wild yeast and all. It was probably a good 10-15 minutes of cleanup before I poured a glass.
The head on this one was a nice pillowy foam, like something you could dive into. The smell was a whole lot of funk and sourness, something you’d expect from a JP beer. I could taste some sour apple tartness along with the funk but it was not unpleasant. I’d consider it a light and crisp farmhouse beer, perfect for Summer.
I’ve seen some mention this as a good introduction to Jolly Pumpkin beers, or sour/wild/lambic styles in general, and I can certainly agree with that.
This bottle was labeled Batch #448/449.
