Sierra Nevada – Ovila Abbey Saison

I was excited about this project. Abbey-style beers have long been a European thing, so a US-based brewer taking on that kind of project is a bit daunting, though the potential upside is huge.

This saison offered a bit of grassy notes, plus the typical banana and clove esters you’d expect from a Belgian-influenced beer. It’s a mild beer at best, but I mean that in a good way. Medium carbonation, no stand-out flavors or hop additions, and the 7% is pretty well masked. This is a textbook example of a saison. (86/100 on Beer Advocate)
