Samuel Adams – Bonfire Rauchbier

I am a huge fan of German smoke beers, so the bar is set pretty high for other breweries. With that said, I was somewhat impressed with this. The smell of smoke and malt show up right off the bat and are pretty well-balanced. The taste is the same, with a noticeable smokiness offset by toffee and dark caramel. This is well beyond some of the other “smoked” beers (Stone Smoked Porter, for example) you could find in the US, without hurting the average beer drinker by going the route of Schlenkerla.
